Jones, Trott and Michelsen among pickleball winners
More of Bermuda’s pickleballing cream rose to the top on the third day of competition at the Kim Burns Memorial Tournament on Monday night.
The first of the action to take place under the lights, with the previous two days of competition going ahead during daylight, WER Joell Stadium was again abuzz.
The highest competition decided during the evening session came in the Men’s 4.5 singles, which was won by Ben Jones, a member of the successful Bermuda team at the Caribbean Championships in March. Jasper Thomas took home the silver medal.
There was a competitive field in the Mens 3.5 singles with Donn Trott coming out on top of a tight final with Nicholas Butterfield. Owen Stewart claimed the bronze medal.
Rian Michelsen took top honours in the Men’s 4.0 singles, beating Nicolaas Van Der Westhuizen 4-11, 11-7, 11-4 in a tight final. Aman Sangareria finished third
Play was not completed in the Mixed Doubles 3.0 (Open) division with the semi-finals and finals scheduled to be played on Thursday night.
Going through to the knockout stages are Savira Qonitah Wahyunintyas & Febby Budi, who will play the winners of the match between Jael Ringgenberg/Joan Rosas and Virbert Virbert/Cheria Morgan for the gold medal.
The losers of that match will play Ana Abend and Michael Araujo for bronze
