St George's emphatically ended the T20 Premier Division season with a dominant 91-run victory over East End rivals St David's at Wellington Oval on Sunday.

The away side elected to field after winning the toss and St George's opener Macai Simmons made two quick boundaries off the first over by first St David's bowler Aaron Paynter, indicating the intent of the home side early on.

Fellow opening bowler Naquan Smith made a horrendous start with his line, conceding two wide boundaries in his first over that went for 13 runs. In that over, he and his team made a loud appeal for lbw against Nzari Paynter, which fell on deaf ears.

Smith continued to struggle with the ball but Paynter had a near miss in his second over. He was dropped by St David's captain Derrick Brangman on three as he attempted to drive powerfully into the on side and that same ball raced to the boundary for four.

Smith conceded a further 14 runs in his second over but Paynter finally got the breakthrough in his third over. He bowled Simmons at the leg stump three balls after Nzari Paynter had pulled his namesake over the square leg boundary for six, which brought up the fifty partnership.

Isaiah O'Brien had a great chance off the bowling of Brian Hall to swing momentum back in favour of St David’s, but he dropped a catch from Jonté Smith at the point boundary.

Smith then started to play his strokes and cracked one notable six off Justin Pitcher, but the spinner got him three balls later to play right into his own arms.

Young Keegan Jones had his turn at the crease and showed equally solid form before becoming the second victim of Pitcher’s wrist spin.

Nzari Paynter got to his half-century off just 40 balls, including four boundaries and three sixes. Pitcher ended his spell of four overs with two quick wickets. First, Dean Simons caught the usually dangerous Zeko Burgess, before Nzari Paynter was taken by a leaping catch from Smith to end an enjoyable knock of 61 off 48 balls.

Aaron Paynter returned to replace Pitcher and claimed his second scalp with two balls left in the penultimate over of the St George’s innings. He dismissed Jahquil Hill for eight after Hill had slammed a six off Derrick Brangman.

Naquan Smith culminated a terrible day with the ball by giving up 19 runs in the last over as Zakari Seymour and Sinclair Smith propelled the blue and blue to 172 for six from their 20 overs. Justin Pitcher closed with four for 19 from his four overs and Hall was the most economical of those who failed to take a wicket.

St George’s made light work of defending their total, with Dean Simons (13) first to depart for St David’s off the spin of young Sa-Qui Robinson. Justin Pitcher was next to go after he mistimed a quicker ball by Robinson. O'Brien was extremely frustrated after he edged into the gloves of home captain Sinclair Smith, leaving St David's reeling at 30 for three.

The St David's order was quickly wiped out by a combination of solid bowling and terrible shot selection. After Robinson finished his immaculate spell with three for nine, Keegan Jones bowled a wicket maiden in which OJ Pitcher was his victim. Brian Hall was stepping into the crease at 38 for five.

Zeko Burgess caught Hall and any sign of a miracle was truly out of the question. Young Dy-Ni Thomas, who claimed the scalp of Hall, then had Derrick Brangman in his next over, and the team had nothing left.

Zakari Seymour took two wickets for just one run in his first over and Jahquil Hill took it on himself to take the final wicket of Aaron Paynter, who cut right to Simmons at mid wicket to end a resounding St George’s win.
