Men injured in daylight stabbing on Front Street
Two men were reported injured after a stabbing on Front Street this afternoon, in a confrontation described by a witness as serious.
A police spokesman said that just before 2pm, police and other first responders received reports of an incident in the vicinity of the Brew restaurant in Hamilton.
The spokesman said: “While details are limited, we can confirm that upon arrival officers found two males with what appeared to be stab wounds.
“They were both attended to at the scene by EMTs before they were transported by ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for further treatment of their injuries.
“There were several people in the area at the time of the incident, and we wish to thank those individuals who have already spoken with officers and provided information to them.
“We would, however, like to hear from any other witnesses who have not yet spoken to police.”
A witness, who asked not to be identified, said that the altercation appeared to have taken place in a small alley.
She described seeing one of the men emerge from the alley, take off his shirt and hold it over a wound on his shoulder.
The witness added: “We got him to sit down on the ground. He was bleeding a lot. There was blood all over the patio, and there were tourists who weren’t aware what was going on sidestepping around the blood.”
She said she spoke with the young man, who was communicative but appeared to be in shock.
A fire truck arrived at the scene, followed by an ambulance, which went to a second injured person.
The witness said: “We didn’t realise there was somebody else just down the way. The ambulance went to the other guy first, I think because he was in worse shape, but I didn’t see him.”
She described the scene as “horrible”, adding: “There was blood everywhere on the patio and the poor guy was bleeding from his shoulder. There was blood all over him.”
The witness said that a kitchen knife had been recovered, adding: “It was not a small, little pocket knife, which was scary.”
Anyone with information is urged to call police at 295-0011 or 211.
