Two students won $25,000 scholarships each from the Ministry of Home Affairs, along with government internships, courtesy of their ideas on energy production.

Neriah Bean and Benjamin Crofton were both named recipients of the Department of Energy Bursary Programme.

The university students, on top of their funds, will work over the summer for eight to twelve weeks with the Department of Energy.

Adrian Dill, director of energy, said: “Both recipients demonstrated strong academic ability and a genuine commitment to Bermuda’s energy future and this programme equips them with the education, experience and exposure to contribute meaningfully to the island’s evolving energy landscape.”

The two, who are both expected to graduate in 2029, submitted essays analysing Bermuda’s energy future and the public’s role in it.

Alexa Lightbourne, the Minister of Home Affairs, said: “Bermuda must position Bermudians to lead the transformation of our economy and this bursary programme invests directly in the people, the potential and the long-term sustainability that future requires.”
