Drink-driver carrying child banned from roads
Two drink-drivers who crashed their motorbikes while carrying pillion passengers — one a child — have been banned from the roads.
Nicole Maderal, 33, and 27-year-old Ciaran Tumulty admitted drink-driving when they appeared in Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
The court heard that Maderal was riding a cycle when she lost control on Middle Road, Southampton, on May 16.
Maderal’s child was her pillion passenger at the time of the crash and they both sustained road rash during the incident.
A relative took the child at the scene and police followed Madera, from Southampton, to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.
A test showed 183 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of Madera’s blood. The legal limit for driving in Bermuda is 80mg/100ml.
The court then heard that Tumulty, from Warwick, lost control of his cycle on Pearman’s Hill, which caused him and a pillion passenger to fall on May 16.
Tests showed between 199.3 and almost 202 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of Tumulty’s blood.
Maderal was fined $1,500 and disqualified for driving all vehicles for 18 months, while Tumulty, who admitted having a problem with alcohol, was released on $1,200 bail, ordered to observe DUI Court and was banned from driving vehicles for a maximum of 18 months.
