The founder of the Premier’s Concert was honoured during the flagship film of a series about Bermuda’s cultural trailblazers.

Voices of the Rock: Ruth’s Mosaic premiered at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute on May 16 to celebrate the life and legacy of Ruth E. Thomas.

The film, aired during Heritage Month, was the first film in the Voices of the Rock series, which used local talent to honour those who contributed to Bermuda’s cultural heritage.

Owen Darrell, the culture minister, said: “This project is important because it tells a part of Bermuda's story through the life of one of our cultural icons.

“It also reflects the history of the Department of Culture and the many individuals whose work has helped preserve and promote our heritage.

“Ms Ruth Thomas’s story is one that deserves to be documented, celebrated and shared.”

Ruth’s Mosaic was produced by Method Media and film-maker Milton Raposo.

Guests later had the chance to take photos with Ms Thomas after the film during a reception.

A government spokeswoman said: “The Department of Culture hopes the film will inspire greater appreciation for Bermuda's cultural leaders and encourage continued support for heritage preservation and local storytelling.”
