David Bascome to lead youth programme at North Village
David Bascome is returning to North Village as his BFLA Academy partners with the club to create expanded opportunities for the next generation of Bermudian footballers
Bascome, who played for Village as a young player, is returning to the fold after a number of years in the hope of strengthening community engagement and developing young people through sport, leadership, and community service.
“As our programmes continues to grow, we recognise the importance of evolving to provide the very best opportunities for our players,” Bascome said.
“Growth requires support, structure, accountability and strong leadership, and this partnership helps position us for long-term success.”
North Village president DeVrae Tankard has welcomed the partnership and Bascome’s return to the club.
“We’re delighted to have a son of the soil return home to continue the work he has already been doing,” Tankard said.
“David is a tremendous Bermudian who believes in giving back to the community that provided him with the platform to achieve success. His commitment to youth development, leadership, and creating opportunities for young people aligns perfectly with the values of North Village Community Club.”
As part of the programme Village outlined the benefits stakeholders can expect from the new partnership.
“North Village’s proud history of producing talented players and respected leaders makes this a natural fit for the continued development of BFLA,” a statement read.
“Through this partnership, players and families can expect improved access to facilities and training environments; Expanded pathways for boys and girls locally and internationally; greater organisational sustainability and structure; end-of-season awards and recognition programmes; community outreach and engagement initiatives; enhanced administrative support and operational growth; increased accountability and leadership within the academy; shared development opportunities through BFLA's growing US partnership network.
“As part of this evolution, BFLA has restructured its organisation and established a new leadership board focused on long-term development, sustainability, and community impact.
The newly formed BFLA Board includes soccer analysts, media personnel, coaching co-ordinators, Director of Managers, Leadership and Social Development Director, with BFLA introducing members of its new leadership team to the Bermuda community through a series of weekly announcements.
“This partnership marks an exciting new chapter for both BFLA and North Village Community Club — one built on culture, development, leadership, and opportunity.
“Together, BFLA and NVCC are committed to building a stronger football environment that serves players, families, and the wider Bermuda community for years to come.”
