High school students, job seekers and professionals were invited to learn about working in the Public Service at a Career Fair and Expo being held tomorrow.

The free event is open to the public and was designed to showcase the breadth of civil service jobs, while providing information on opportunities, career pathways and future workforce needs.

Those who attend will be able to speak directly with public officers.

Cherie-Lynn Whitter, the Head of the Public Service, said: “We encourage individuals at every stage of their career journey to attend, ask questions and discover how their skills and interests can align with meaningful public service careers.”

The expo will run from midday to 8pm tomorrow and comes at a time when more than 20 per cent of public officers will be eligible for retirement next spring.

There are also more than 200 openings in the service.

The fair will extend across the Pier 6 waterfront, Cabinet grounds and surrounding areas, offering a dynamic and interactive experience.

Attendees can expect to see boats and maritime operations on the waterfront, alongside displays from the uniformed services including police, fire and rescue, and the Royal Bermuda Regiment.

Emergency vehicles and buses from the Department of Transport will also be on display.

The demonstrations are designed to give the public an up-close view of the essential work carried out across government agencies.

Inside Pier 6 and under the event tent, representatives from 11 ministries will be available to engage with attendees.

The employee and organisational development and workforce development departments will also be on hand to provide CV guidance, career advice and interview preparation tips.

A series of panel discussions and presentations will offer further insight into specific career paths and emerging opportunities.

The Government said that the Public Service offers a diverse range of career options, including opportunities for those without a university degree, as well as pathways for career advancement and growth.

Ms Whitter added: “Whether you are entering the workforce, considering a career change or looking to grow professionally, there is a place for you within the Public Service.”
