Vernon Tankard has been appointed as head coach of Wolves.

The former North Village midfielder has taken over the reins of the First Division club from Tory Davis and brings a wealth of senior football experience and a deep commitment to discipline and player development.

As such, expectations are high for Tankard, whom the club regard as a “hidden gem” and an “important step” as they seek to reinforce their senior team as part of a broader revival, which also includes relaunching their youth programme.

“Vernon is exactly the type of leader we need at this moment. He is highly principled, values discipline and dedication and has a proven track record both as a player and coach,” said Wolves president and chief executive William Usher Jr.

“We are confident he will instil the winning mentality and high standards that Wolves Sports Club stands for.”

Tankard is looking forward to sharing his wealth of experience with the former Premier Division powerhouse.

“I am truly honoured to join Wolves Sports Club as head coach of the senior men’s team,” he said.

“Having spent my entire playing career at North Village, where I was fortunate to be part of multiple trophy-winning campaigns, including an historic Triple Crown, I understand what it takes to build a successful team.

“I have spent many years coaching youth and working behind the scenes at the senior level. I look forward to bringing that experience to Wolves, developing players and building a disciplined, competitive and unified senior squad.”

Davis has since been appointed as technical director of Wolves, who finished second from bottom in the First Division last season.

He will lead the club’s technical development, youth programming and coaching standards across all age groups, and also serve in an advisory capacity with the men’s senior team and be the under-13 boys head coach.

In his new role, Davis will focus on building structured player development pathways, mentoring the club’s volunteer coaching staff and raising training standards to support the club’s long-term growth, particularly as it relaunches and expands its youth programme.
