Johnny Bart holding his own in Ontario
Johnny Bart made subtle headway in the third round of the Ontario Junior Boys Amateur Championship today.
The Saltus Grammar School student shot 76, which two birdies, five bogeys and a double, at the par-71 Sawmill Golf Course in Fenwick, Ontario to jump four places on the leaderboard and earn a share of 44th at 14-over.
The 17-year-old produced his best round so far at the championship, an even-par 71, which included an eagle at the par-4 16th, in the second round on Tuesday to make the 36-hole cut.
“I went in knowing I needed a good round to make the cut,” he said. “I really wanted a good round as I felt like all of my hard work wasn’t reflected in my scores.
“I got off to a good start and stayed focused the whole round, making four birdies and an eagle to shoot a 71 and secure two more days at it, where I hope to excel and qualify for the Canadian Junior Championships.”
The top 60 players and ties among the overall field of 144 made the cut.
Bart qualified for the tournament after finishing tied for second at one-under in an 18-hole qualifier at Wildfire Golf Club in Lakefield last month.
Gabriel Mainella leads the field at the Ontario Junior Boys Amateur Championship by two shots at ten-under with eighteen holes to play.
