Warwick edge Somerset to win FrayStar festival
Warwick Cricket Club Blues were the inaugural winners of the FrayStar Youth Cricket Festival after they defeated Somerset Cricket Club by eight wickets on Sunday.
In a thrilling contest that came down to the very last ball at Saltus Grammar School, Somerset scored 109 for three, before Warwick replied with 110 for two.
“We extend our congratulations to every team that participated in this inaugural festival,” FrayStar said.
“Thank you for your commitment, passion and competitive spirit throughout the weekend. You all played a part in making history and showcasing the bright future of Bermudian cricket.
“To our clubs, coaches, players, umpires, supporters, volunteers, sponsors and Saltus Grammar School — thank you. Your support, dedication and belief in our vision made this event a tremendous success.”
Participants at the two-day fiesta got to honour the legacy of Kenneth Fray Sr, the former Southampton Rangers wicketkeeper.
“Most importantly, thank you for helping us honour the memory of Kenneth Fray Sr,” FrayStar said.
“This festival and championship trophy were created in loving memory of a devoted brother, family man and someone whose legacy will continue to inspire future generations through the game of cricket.
“We hope this festival will become a lasting tradition that celebrates not only excellence on the field but also the values of respect, discipline, unity and opportunity.
“This weekend was about so much more than crowning a champion — it was about creating memories, building friendships and investing in the future of Bermudian cricket.”
Meanwhile, FrayStar is on Sunday hosting “Beyond the Boundary: An Evening of Art, Inspiration & Youth Development.”
The event, taking place at Treehouse Bermuda in Hamilton from 4pm to 6pm, will help support the organisation’s development initiatives.
“All proceeds from the auction will help support our players on the FrayStar UK Development Tour, providing them with invaluable opportunities for growth, education and cricket development abroad,” FrayStar added.
“Whether you’re an art enthusiast, a cricket supporter, or simply someone who believes in investing in Bermuda's youth, we invite you to come along and make a difference.”
