Human Rights Tribunal seeks new members
Members of the public are encouraged to apply to serve on Bermuda’s Human Rights Tribunal.
Seth Darrell, head of its selection and appointment committee, said applicants should have “experience, interest in, understanding or knowledge of human rights law or human rights issues”.
He added: “Those applying for the chair position must be qualified barristers and attorneys with at least five years’ standing and have knowledge of human rights law.
“To avoid potential conflicts of interest, current members of the judiciary, legislature and public service are not eligible to apply.”
Mr Darrell explained that the tribunal allows people to “contribute their specific experiences and perspectives to a process grounded in integrity, impartiality and understanding”.
He told interested applicants: “Your voice matters — by stepping forward, you can help ensure the tribunal truly reflects the breadth of voices and lived realities across our community.”
Tribunal members will receive compensation for each hearing.
Applications should be submitted via humanrights.bm by 3pm on August 7.
