Holders Warwick Workmen’s Club have made one change to their playing XI for the Western Counties second round clash against strong challengers Southampton Rangers at White Hill Field today (11am).

From the team that defeated PHC by 139 runs in the opening round last Saturday, colt Trey Vance has been brought in for Jade Darrell.

Lorenzo Tucker, the Warwick coach and president, is expecting a tough challenge from Rangers, who are enjoying a fine run since the start of the domestic season.

“We are anticipating a highly competitive encounter against perennial giants Southampton Rangers in the second round of the Western County,” Tucker said.

“They got the better of us in the 50-over league last Sunday, where we didn’t perform to the standard we expect with the bat. As a result, we are focused on delivering a much-improved performance this time around.

“The Western County competition has a way of bringing out the very best in players, and we understand that it will require a near-flawless effort to achieve a positive result.

“While Rangers may not have their full league squad available, they remain an extremely strong side with several match-winners capable of turning the game in a short space of time.

“We are heading into the match with a largely unchanged team and are looking forward to what promises to be a great contest.”

Rangers defeated Warwick by five wickets in the Premier Division 50 overs at PHC Field last Sunday. They have picked a formidable squad featuring six of the players who played in that league match.

Captain Alex Dore, Dalin Richardson, veteran Dion Stovell, Jordan DeSilva, Dante Wellman and Donte Brangman were involved in the league victory over Warwick.

Rangers have been strengthened by the presence of the Brangman brothers, Derrick and Ricardo. Oronde Bascome is also in the side while his brother Onias is ineligible to play, together with Delray Rawlins, Allan Douglas Jr and Deunte Darrell.

Meanwhile, no officials have been appointed for the Premier Division match between St George’s and Warwick, scheduled for tomorrow (10.30am). It is understood that both teams have been informed by the Bermuda Cricket Board to make every effort for the fixture to be fulfilled.

Somerset were meant to face Rangers tomorrow, but that encounter has been moved to August 30, while Bailey’s Bay and Willow Cuts meet at Sea Breeze Oval tomorrow (10.30am).
