Nahki Wells scores for Luton in preseason friendly
Nahki Wells got on the scoresheet as Luton Town continued their preparation for the new season with a 5-0 win over Hitchin Town.
Wells came on as one of 11 changes made at half time by Jack Wilshere and wasted no time in scoring, powering a header into the net just before the hour.
That was Luton’s third goal of the afternoon with Jordan Clark scoring twice and Kasey Palmer and Christian Chigozie completing the scoring.
Luton are third-favourites to earn promotion from League One this season according to bookmakers but they will face stiff competition from Leicester City, who have gone from Premier League Champions to the third tier of English football within a decade.
Sheffield Wednesday, another team relegated from the Sky Bet Championship, are also well placed for promotion after their recent financial troubles have been resolved under new ownership.
Luton are just under a month away from their first competitive game of the season, which comes against Gillingham in the EFL Cup first round on August 8. Their first league game is scheduled to be away at Reading on August 15.
Before that they have a string of preseason friendlies, including a game against Go Ahead Eagles, who finished twelfth in the top flight of Dutch football last season.
Managed by Jack Wilshere, Luton won the EFL trophy last season, with Wells scoring twice at Wembley in the final.
