Dame Flora Duffy is on course for perhaps the final win of her illustrious career after making it into the final three for the greatest Commonwealth Games moment.

Duffy was originally shortlisted with 15 other athletes in a public vote held on the Commonwealth Games website and, thanks to the votes from Bermuda, she made it into the final and will compete against Usain Bolt and Eilish McColgan for the ultimate accolade.

Bolt was nominated for anchoring Jamaica to relay gold in Glasgow in 2014 and McColgan for winning 10,000 metres gold in Birmingham in 2022. Bermuda’s golden girl was nominated for winning the island’s first female gold medal at the Games in Australia in 2018.

Fans of Flora can still make a difference with the public vote reopened until Friday, when the winner will be announced, and Duffy is honoured to be in contention.

“It’s definitely a big honour to be nominated alongside some spectacular athletes, so I feel really grateful and honoured that I’m included in that list,” she said.

“I can remember that Gold Coast race really well. The women's triathlon was the first event of the 2018 Games and I won, so it was the first medal presentation and because I won gold, Bermuda was sitting at the top of the medal table, which was really cool.

“I don’t think that lasted very long because there was other events that were starting to take place but it was still pretty special that tiny Bermuda was sitting at the top of the medal table at the Commonwealth Games.

“It was just such a special day to win my first Commonwealth Games gold medal and to be Bermuda's first female to win one was incredible.

“The other special thing about that Commonwealth Games was that Bermuda had a triathlon relay team with Erica Hawley, Tyler Smith and Tyler Butterfield. So all in all, it was quite the first few days of that Commonwealth Games and I’m very proud of it.”

“Now let’s see if I get some votes but if not, either way, it’s still an honour to be nominated and be recognised for my achievement.”
