A local theatre company is looking to build a team for a Bermudian-based adaptation of The Woman at the Well, planned to take the stage in October.

The Noire Youth Theatre Company said auditions and production crew interviews will start this week for the show, with song writers and vendors also sought to bolster the production.

A spokeswoman said Grace, written and directed by Patricia Pogson-Nesbitt, is an adaptation of The Woman at the Well by The Reverend Georgette Prime-Goodwin, which is itself based on a timeless biblical story.

The story follows the “cursed” history of a family of women through five generations of growth and economic development whose life experiences are repeated from generation to generation, but ends with the hope stemming from questions posed by the youngest in the family.

The spokeswoman said: “The setting of the production begins in Guyana mid-1900s and transports us to Bermuda in 1904.

“It is a vibrant, historical yet contemporary presentation, a powerful production complemented with music and dance that explores the importance of historical truth as it pertains to your family.

“It gives cause for thought before engaging in intimate relationships which could lead to the birth of extended families and all the implications that accompany the new births.”

Auditions and production crew interviews will take place between 5.30pm and 8pm on Friday and between 1pm and 5pm on Saturday at the Bermuda Union of Teachers headquarters on Church Street.

Audition materials area available online and rehearsals are scheduled to start on August 5.

Grace will be performed at the Ruth Seaton James Centre for the Performing Arts from October 8 to 11.
