BPSU supports educational endeavours to the tune of $31k
A public services union awarded ten educational grants valued collectively at $31,000 for online and overseas study.
The Bermuda Public Services Union said the grants underscore its commitment to investing in the educational aspirations of its members.
“Our members are at the heart of everything we do, and the education awards demonstrate our continued commitment to investing in their aspirations and those of their families,” said Nadine Henry, the BPSU president.
“Through education, we engage our members, empower the next generation and evolve together as a stronger union and community.
“We congratulate this year’s recipients and look forward to the positive contributions they will make to Bermuda and beyond.”
This year, the union presents ten awards — two local or online awards valued at $1,500 each and eight overseas awards valued at $3,500 each.
Local and online awards ($1,500):
• Sarine Babb, studying law
• Jaela Medeiros-Symonds, studying nursing
Overseas awards ($3,500):
• Sascha Burchall, studying kinesiology and health promotion
• Nahla Burgess, studying architecture
• Kimura Cole, studying nursing
• Latarie Doers-Bowen, studying elementary education and management
• Kenya Smith-Woodley, studying animation
• Sekai Tatem, studying social work
• Hailey Trott, studying health promotion
• Isis Tucker, studying business administration
Since the inception of the education awards, the BPSU has awarded over $800,000 in support of academic pursuits.
A union spokesman said: “This has been an enduring testament to the union’s belief in the transformative power of education.”
This year’s recipients represent a diverse range of academic disciplines and career ambitions.
The awards were held under the leadership of Ms Henry, Kevin Grant, the General Secretary, and Vernon Wears, the education committee chairman.
