It was a good first morning in the pool for Bermuda’s swimmers at the Commonwealth Games with a number of athletes progressing to semi-finals.

Elan Daley, on her return to competitive swimming with Bermuda, qualified for the semi-finals of the 50 metres butterfly along with Emma Harvey, while Jack Harvey made it through in the 50 metres backstroke.

Daley was victorious in heat one of the event, touching the wall in 27.56sec to claim victory by more than a second from Hayley Wong, of Brunei. Daley’s time meant she qualified sixteenth for the semi-finals.

Emma Harvey finished fifth in a stacked final heat containing many of the event’s big names, with her time of 27.16 just 1.61 behind heat winner Alex Perkins, from Australia. Harvey qualified thirteenth fastest.

Jack Harvey thrashed his rivals to take victory in heat one of the 50 metres backstroke, finishing in 25.50, more than two seconds clear of his closest competitor Delroy Tyrrell, from Guyana.

He then had to wait for the next four heats to see if he had done enough to make it through to the semi-finals, eventually finding out that his time was enough to qualify in thirteenth.

The semi-finals will take place tonight in Glasgow with Daley and Emma Harvey’s race set to start at 4.08pm Bermuda time and Jack Harvey’s semi scheduled for 3.59pm Bermuda time.

Sam Williamson and Elijah Daley were also in action in the 200 metres individual medley.

Both competed in heat one, with Daley taking bragging rights after finishing fourth 2:06.82, just 0.1sec in front of Williamson, who finished fifth.

However both swimmers missed out on a place in the final, with Daley finishing fourteenth and Williamson fifteenth fastest.
