Bermuda boats delivered a second straight one-two finish to do the island proud at the St Clair River Classic in Michigan on Sunday.

Taking the chequered flag from the pole was Super Stock National Championship leaders Steven Bridges and David Selley, who claimed their third win of the year in their 32ft twin-engined catamaran, Team Bermuda.

Driver Luis Martins and throttle man Nick Imprescia crossed in second in their boat, Nuff Said, to cap another dominate display by both local teams.

“Great race today and thrilled to bring home another checkered flag,” Team Bermuda boat owner and throttle man Bridges told The Royal Gazette.

“The current in the lake was strong, which made the corners especially tricky, but we stayed focused, managed the conditions well and held our position throughout the race.

“Great day for both Bermuda boats with another one-two finish as well.

“This win is huge for our overall points standings and makes for an all-around great day. Huge thanks to everyone who supports us. Couldn’t do it without you and we’re looking forward to the next one.”

Team Bermuda driver Selley added: “We got a great start and really had to manage the whole race and fight guardian mode and be more like engine drivers.

“For a calm water race the current made it tricky in the turns but we managed it together and drove a great race.

“Thanks to our crew, sponsors and supporters, we couldn’t do this without the help.”

Bridges and Selley’s others wins arrived at the St Petersburg Grand Prix and Thunder at Cocoa Beach. They also finished second at the New Orleans Grand Prix and Shootout Offshore on Lake of Ozarks.

Bermuda boats also first and second at last month’s Shootout Offshore Lake of Ozarks in Missouri, where Martins and Imprescia secured their first win together and Bridge’s and Selley took second.

After producing the third fastest qualifying time, Martins and Imprescia gave it their best shot but were unable to pass Bridges and Selley.

“It was a really exciting race. The start is such an important part of it and Team Bermuda had the inside lane, which gave them an advantage,” Martins said.

“We managed to get into second on the first lap, but we just couldn’t get around them. They had a really good race and ran well from start to finish.

“We gave it our best, but we just couldn’t make the move. Credit to them, they did a great job.”

American Imprescia added: “So grateful this team hit every mark and executed a perfect race.

“S25 [Bridges and Selley] executed a perfect weekend. P1 in qualifying for them is a huge step forward, and they played perfect defence in the race.”
