Late racer Rickai Raynor to be honoured at motocross event
Tributes will be paid to late local racing enthusiasts Rickai “Pugi” Raynor during next month’s MX Unleashed: The International Edition event at the Southampton Rangers Sports Club.
The 28-year-old father of two and brother of Minister of Public Works and Environment Jaché Adams, succumbed to injuries he sustained when his boat crashed into a yacht moored near White’s Island during Bermuda Power Boat Association’s Hamilton Harbour Race series on June 28.
The MX Unleashed team along with The Give Back will hold a tribute presentation for the late Raynor followed by a moment of silence led by Bermuda Motocross Association during the event on September 5.
“Pugi” passed while the team was planning this year’s show. The event is now dedicated to him and his message to “do it for the youth”, organisers said in a statement.
“We feel the weight of Pugi’s loss as the MX Unleashed team; but he would want us to push on. This show is for the youth, for the community and for Bermuda.”
The upcoming motocross and freestyle spectacle will be headlined by two of the world’s elite freestyle riders.
Race fans are in store for a special treat as American Levi Farias and Frenchman Jason Rake showcase their array of tricks, flips and high-flying action during the island’s first-ever international freestyle showdown.
Presented by Jumpstart MX & The Give Back, the motocross and freestyle spectacle brings together a blend of elite racing, youth development and community impact all in memory of fallen team member Raynor.
MX Unleashed is more than just a race as it was built on the motto “Pick up a bike, put down a gun” and uses motocross to provide Bermuda’s youth positive outlets, mentorship and alternatives through sport.
Gates will open to the public at 3pm with the opening ceremony featuring a host of local riders at 4pm and tribute to Raynor at 4.25pm.
The track comes alive at 4.50pm with PW50, 50cc and Surron exhibitions for ages 4 and up and a Fat Tyre Mountain Bike Show at 5.45pm.
The main event kicks off at 6pm with King of the Corner — 65 to PRO, 65cc to 85cc and 450 to Novice races.
Local artist Fire Wayne will then perform live during an intermission at 7.30pm ahead of the 8pm finale pitting international headliners Farias against Rake.
The event will conclude at 9pm with a performance by the Gombeys.
