Bermudian meets Grammy-winning artist in California
A woman understood to be from Bermuda met award-winning musical artist Jelly Roll and was on international television this week.
Layla Williams recalled in a TikTok clip how she was approached by a team from the late night talk show Jimmy Kimmel Live! while walking on Hollywood Boulevard in California.
She explained: “I was just walking down the street and this guy with a clipboard stopped me and asked ‘do you want to do an interview?’
“Obviously I knew what it was, but every time I walk down there, I never see the interviews happening.
“He had me sign this waiver, I didn’t even read it.”
The interviewer asked Ms Williams to rate actors Jake Gyllenhaal and Jason Momoa, which she rated four and two out of ten respectively.
When asked to rate Jelly Roll, she responded: “I like him as a person, so an eight.”
The Grammy-winning artist then came from behind Ms Williams and thanked her for “seeing beyond the surface” before the two embraced.
She said in her TikTok clip: “It was so weird seeing him in real life, it all happened so fast — it was crazy, what a crazy day.”
Most comments on Ms Williams’s posts were positive.
However, she later addressed other remarks, posting on her Instagram story that she knew Jelly Roll, who is guest hosting Jimmy Kimmel Live! this week, “based on his music and his story making it through addiction, incarceration and weight loss”.
Her post added: “Sorry for the politics of it all, I’m not American, it was simply a cool experience.”
The Royal Gazette contacted Ms Williams on Instagram for comment.
