Bermuda’s first fully sanctioned mixed combat sports event takes place tonight with the Devil's Isle Fight Championship under the tent at North Field, National Sports Centre.

Eight fights are on the card, featuring eleven Bermudians and five foreign fighters for an event that has been given the green light by the Bermuda Combat Sports Commission. Jibreel “Anszar” Talbot faces Jashun Thomas in an all-Bermudian main three-round welterweight act that promises fireworks for fighting sports fans.

Na’twuan “Nate” Fisher, the DIFC founder, cannot wait to see his months of sweat come to fruition.

“I’m excited to be making history by having the first sanctioned Mixed Martial Arts event in Bermuda,” Fisher told The Royal Gazette.

“We have grappling, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, kickboxing, Muay Thai and MMA on the card, which should be exciting.

“Everything's in place, we are just putting in the finishing touches now to the cage. We have flown in a referee from the United States mainly for the two mixed martial fights.

“I’m exhausted but happy to see everything come together. I’ve been tackling this solo, but I got the right people involved and they’ve been guiding me and pushing me along.”

While his event is on the same day as the Eastern Counties final round, Fisher is optimistic of getting a good attendance.

“We are competing with the Eastern Counties, so it’s kind of rough,” he said.

“But over the last week, it’s been picking up. We are looking at about 250 to 300 people and the last time I checked, so I think it’s going to be a good turnout.”

The event has received a lot of support with a number of organisations contributing in various ways.

“I’m really grateful to all our sponsors who have chipped in to ensure the inaugural DIFC is a success,” Fisher added.
