Sa-Qui Robinson is looking forward to helping St David’s try to regain the trophy when they come up against holders Bailey’s Bay in the final round of the Eastern Counties at Lord’s today.

The St George’s off-spinner has been recalled to the challengers’ team as a guest player and is one of two changes the Islanders have made to their team that drew with then holders Cleveland County at the same stage of the competition last year.

Robinson is making his second appearance in the competition, and first in four years, after making his debut as a 14-year-old colt in 2022, and is thrilled to be reunited with his St David’s team-mates.

“It feels good to be back in the squad. Playing for St George’s, I have been playing against St David’s all season, and it just feels like I’m back at home in the county team at St David’s,” Robinson told The Royal Gazette.

“It also feels good to play alongside my great mate Isaiah O’Brien before he leaves to go to college.”

The challengers have a good blend of youth and experience in their team as well as depth in their batting and bowling.

“We have a strong bowling attack, so we can go at them aggressively to try and bowl them out,” Robinson said.

“We also have a strong batting order so if we bat first we can go out there, make our runs, and then turn around and go at them aggressively and try to bowl them out.”

Robinson has replaced Chare Smith, who is presently playing overseas with Frenchay Cricket Club in the West of England Premier League, while fellow guest player Seth Campbell has replaced team stalwart George O’Brien Jr.

Bay have made three changes to their team, with Lazai Outerbridge, Derrick Brangman and Coolidge Durham making way for the recalled Rodney Trott, Jermaine Usher and guest player Nyhrobi Carmichael.

Wicketkeeper-batter Outerbridge made his debut in the competition as a colt in the previous round against Flatts, which ended in a draw, after all-rounder Trott retired temporarily from the series.

The 22-year-old has since resumed studies abroad, with Trott reclaiming his spot as Bay’s vice-captain after reversing his decision.

Usher has been drafted in as cover for fellow left-arm spinner and guest player Derrick Brangman. As per county rules, St David’s league captain Brangman is locked in to play for Bay but has opted not play against his club team in the red-ball competition.

Brangman was instrumental in helping Bay reclaim the cup from previous holders Cleveland in the first round, taking five for 56 to earn the man-of-the-match award.

He was also chosen as man of the match in Bay’s draw against Flatts Victoria in the second round at Lord’s last Saturday after stroking 47 and claiming one for 17 in a rain- affected contest.

Southampton Rangers’ seamer Carmichael has replaced opening batter Durham, who has been dropped after featuring in the previous two rounds.

Today’s Eastern Counties clash is one of two vital fixtures for St David’s over the weekend as they also find themselves in a must-win situation heading into their final Premier Division 50 overs contest against Warwick Workmen’s Club at Lord’s tomorrow.

As it stands, the Islanders are second from bottom with 20 points and will be relegated should they lose to the visitors.

Newly crowned champions Southampton Rangers will be hoping to maintain their unbeaten record heading into their final fixture against Somerset at Somerset Cricket, while St George’s take on relegated Willow Cuts at Wellington Oval in the remaining top flight match-up.

In First Division 50 overs play, Flatts Victoria can clinch promotion with victory against hosts Devonshire at Devonshire Rec, while Somerset Bridge are at home to PHC at White Hill Field.

Leaders Cleveland, who have a bye this round, have already been promoted.
