Work to construct roundabouts and relocate bus stops in the East End is expected to continue through this month, the Ministry of Public Works and Environment announced.

A spokeswoman said the second stage of the multi-phased project, which will allow for a new bridge linking St George’s and St David’s to be built, is set to be completed by the end of this week.

A temporary bus shelter was built near the St David’s roundabout during the first phase of the project, the second stage involved constructing a mini-roundabout near Waller’s Point Road, and the third, set to continue through September 27, will establish a one-way roundabout and relocate another bus shelter.

The spokeswoman said the one-way roundabout will see westbound traffic divert along the bus lane and the bus stop at Gate No 1 relocated to a grass verge near the Kindley Field Park wall.

She added that all traffic will divert through Kindley Field Park and all buses will use the turnaround in this area once the mini-roundabout is built.

Jaché Adams, the Minister of Public Works and Environment, said last month that work on the new bridge, which will be located to the immediate east of the existing structure built in 1964, will begin as soon as a successful bidder is announced for the project.
