Navigating the complexities of technology compliance will be the subject of a three-part course offered by Bermuda College.

The lecture series, led by Duncan Card, chief executive officer of The Advisory Group, will take place on three consecutive Tuesday mornings, starting on September 29 and ending on October 13.

The sessions will run from 9.30am to 11.30am and participants can attend in person or online.

The course, offered by the college’s Academic Professional and Career Education division, will explore the rapidly evolving world of technology compliance in Bermuda, with practical insights into regulation of privacy rights, IT and cyber-risk management, artificial intelligence development and deployment, outsourcing, resiliency, and the use of third-party services.

The course is aimed at regulators, compliance officers, in-house legal counsel, privacy officers, chief information security officers, risk managers, IT managers and professionals at all levels, internal and external auditors, cloud service providers, and corporate directors and governance officers.

The series provides comprehensive review and insight into both Bermuda-specific regulatory and operational compliance requirements and practical advice and guidance into technology compliance best practices in areas including:

• Corporate governance and technology: understanding how boards and executives must align business operations with modern IT laws

• Sources of technology law and regulation: common law, third-party contracts; IT standards associations; numerous codes of the Bermuda Monetary Authority; The Cybersecurity Act 2024; and, the Personal Information Protection Act 2016

• Evolving technology compliance: a deep dive into the local and global technology compliance shifts affecting businesses in Bermuda

• Cybersecurity and privacy: management and operational strategies for managing digital threats, protection frameworks, and corporate governance

• Artificial intelligence: navigating the legal, risk, and structural impacts of implementing AI and automated technologies, including AI contracting

• IT and data management best practices: practical approaches to managing internal data infrastructure, privacy security requirements and service delivery effectively

Mr Card is recognised as an authority on technology compliance on the island, and previously practised as a specialised technology and privacy lawyer in Canada and Bermuda for over 25 years.
