An out-of-school camp series focused on discovery and exploration has been voted the best of its kind in Bermuda for young children.

The Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute picked up The Bermudian magazine’s Best Holiday Camp for Children Aged 5 to 8 in the Family Favourites Awards category.

The facility thanked all in the community who voted in the awards, saying the recognition was a “tremendous honour and a meaningful affirmation of the work we do for Bermuda’s children”.

Traci Burgess, the chief executive of the BUEI, said: “Our holiday camps are about creating opportunities for children to explore, discover and learn in ways that are engaging and memorable.

“This recognition is a wonderful testament to our commitment to the next generation and to the dedicated team that makes these experiences possible.

“BUEI thanks the Bermuda community for its support and The Bermudian for recognising the programmes that make a difference to Bermuda’s families.”

Summer Wood, the head of education at the BUEI, said the award reflects its dedication towards science, sustainability and conservation education, while highlighting the passion and creativity of its staff.

Hanna Horsfield, programme co-ordinator, added: “A big thank you to all the families who have participated in our camps over the holidays.

“Seeing students return year after year and being a part of their growth has been one of the most rewarding experiences for us.

“We’re incredibly grateful for the relationships we’ve built with families and hope to continue inspiring and connecting with as many young people as possible in the years to come.”
