Arcadian Risk Capital, the specialty managing general agent with operations in Bermuda, Ireland, the United Kingdom, and the United States, has appointed Matthew Mullen as executive vice-president.

He will lead Arcadian’s expansion into the US enterprise casualty market. Arcadian has secured multiyear underwriting capacity for the new business.

The company said: “Matthew brings over 35 years of underwriting experience and a strong track record of building and managing profitable portfolios in the US specialty insurance market.

“Based in New York, he will focus on developing Arcadian’s presence in the enterprise risk market, working across retail distribution channels and leveraging his long standing broker relationships.

“The account will be structured as excess in terms of risk characteristic and spread across multiple risk sectors.”

Mr Mullen joins Arcadian from Markel where he most recently served as managing director, specialty insurance.

Prior to that, he held senior underwriting positions with Alterra, XL and Munich Re.

John Boylan, chief executive officer of Arcadian, commented: “We are very pleased to have Matt join Arcadian and lead this new initiative. He brings a deep understanding of the market, strong distribution relationships and, importantly, an underwriting philosophy that is highly aligned with ours.

“His experience and reputation will be valuable as we establish and grow this business, while continuing to maintain the disciplined approach that underpins Arcadian’s underwriting strategy.”

Mr Mullen said he was excited to join Arcadian and build the business as part of a platform with a strong underwriting culture and a clear commitment to long-term growth.

He said: “Arcadian provides an attractive combination of experienced leadership, strong market relationships and the flexibility to develop a differentiated underwriting proposition.

“I look forward to working with the team to establish a high-quality and sustainable portfolio in the US market.”

Arcadian said the appointment represents another step in the continued development of their platform, which in January 2026 received a growth investment from Lee Equity Partners, LLC, a growth-oriented, middle-market investment firm specialising in the financial and healthcare services sectors.
