A month of cultural and artistic celebration is returning courtesy of the Bermuda Tourism Authority.

The annual Art Month, launched in 2023, opens tomorrow with Art in Motion at City Hall in Hamilton bringing “a moving celebration of Bermuda’s creative community”, encompassing the Bermuda National Gallery and Bermuda Society of Arts, with live music and refreshments.

Half of proceeds will support participating galleries, with the remainder going to a local charitable cause.

Jan Hutton, the chief executive of the BTA, called it a month when “art turns up in unexpected places — in our caves, around the dinner table, through music and movement and, of course, in our galleries”.

The month continues on Saturday with the Bermuda Gombey Festival at the Botanical Gardens in Paget, featuring troupes from across the island.

“Sip and Paint in the Caves” will be held on Sundays inside Prospero Cave at Grotto Bay, with Carlos Santana Dill leading painting sessions in a subterranean setting.

The four days of Taste of Bermuda will run in the City of Hamilton from October 8 to11 while, on October 16, the Art Tour will take guests through the Hamilton Princess & Beach Club’s contemporary collection featuring works by Picasso, Matisse, Warhol and Banksy.

On October 17, the Live Art Dinner at The Loren brings six local artists to show their creativity during a four-course dinner with paired wines.

Works by local artists will be showcased with a performance by cellist Isaiah Free-Pennington on October 24, when Art Drop Bermuda: Harmonious Hues is held at Gosling’s Wine Cellar.

The BNG Run for the Arts 5K on October 25 will support the Bermuda National Gallery’s education programmes and public art in Northeast Hamilton.

Grotto Bay Beach Resort and Spa will offer the Art Month Getaway all-inclusive island weekend, which will combine a waterfront stay with curated gallery tours, history walks, art showcases and the subterranean Sip and Paint

Visitors and residents can also pick up an Art Month Passport at any of the island’s Visitor Services Centres, and collect stamps at participating galleries and museums.

Once completed, the passport can be taken back and redeemed for a special gift.
