The Transportation Safety Board of Canada will lead the investigation into an incident in which an air ambulance carrying two Bermudians and four Canadians crashed off Nantucket, Massachusetts, early on Saturday.

It said that in the coming days, the TSB will deploy investigators to assist in the search and recovery of the Latitude Air Ambulance plane.

The Gulfstream model aircraft departed Bermuda with six occupants, including Bermudians Marilyn Lavonne Bean and her son, Sergio Wayne Lottimore.

It was approaching the Boston area when the crew reported electrical difficulties.

The aircraft, bearing Canadian registration C-GRJP, subsequently descended rapidly and contact with air traffic control was lost south of the island of Nantucket, off Boston.

The TSB said pursuant to international agreements, the investigation will be conducted by the state of registry of the aircraft, which is Canada.

The agency will be assisted by the US National Transportation Safety Board as accredited representatives.

In a separate statement, the NTSB said it continues to monitor the situation.

After a wide-ranging investigation throughout the weekend, the search was suspended last night.

The US Coast Guard had, since Saturday, been looking for the air ambulance — a Gulfstream G100 jet — focusing on a debris field confirmed to be from the aircraft.

Latitude added that it will continue to co-operate fully with the US and Canadian transportation authorities as well as all other relevant authorities as recovery efforts and the investigation proceed.

It also said it was grateful to all of those who worked “tirelessly” in the search for those aboard Heartbeat 104.
