Police: traffic stop leads to ‘significant’ drugs seizures
Police netted a “large quantity” of controlled drugs thanks to a routine traffic stop in Flatts.
A spokesman said officers on mobile patrol had cause to stop a car travelling east along North Shore Road in Flatts Village, Smith’s at about 1.25pm yesterday.
The driver, a 31-year-old man, was arrested when checks showed he was disqualified from driving, and the drugs were discovered during a search at the Hamilton Police Station.
He was further arrested for possession of a controlled drug with intent to supply.
The arrest led to the execution of a warrant under the Misuse of Drugs Act at a Pembroke residence where more suspected controlled drugs were seized and a 40-year-old male arrested.
Two other men at the residence, aged 23 and 24, were arrested for outstanding warrants.
Inspector Roger Saints of the Bermuda Police Service’s tactical operations unit thanked the public for “their patience and co-operation during any disruption to their weekend routine while officers effected these arrests”.
He added: “What might seem an inconvenience is actually meant to ensure your safety.
“Further, this particular matter once again highlights the importance and value of traffic stops. What began as a routine traffic operation resulted in the seizure of a significant amount of illegal drugs.”
