Coastguard seeks new vessels
The Royal Bermuda Regiment Coastguard plans to add two new high-speed patrol and interceptor vessels to its fleet.
A request for proposals issued by the Ministry of National Security and RBR called on manufacturers to submit bids for the “design, construction, supply, delivery, testing and commissioning” of the vessels.
The RFP, issued on Friday, stated that the boats should be between 33 and 38 feet and capable of supporting maritime law enforcement and interdiction, border protection and security, patrols, search-and-rescue efforts, safety inspections, environmental monitoring and national security tasks.
It explained: “The vessels are required to be delivered as fully operational, turnkey maritime platforms with propulsion, navigation, communications, sensor, safety and mission equipment fully installed, integrated and tested.”
Major Jeffrey Patterson, the RBR Coastguard Commander, said: “The operating environment around Bermuda requires vessels that are reliable, capable and adaptable.
“These platforms are specified to support both high-speed interdiction and sustained patrol operations while providing our crews with modern navigation, communications, surveillance and safety systems.”
He said that interchangeability between the patrol and interceptor vessels will improve “training, maintenance, logistics and overall operational readiness”.
Maj Patterson added: “The boats will allow the coastguard to expand its operating window, thus increasing its availability to mariners in distress, as well as increasing our capacity to support border protection.”
The ministry allocated $2.2 million in the 2026-27 budget to procure the vessels, which will undergo factory, harbour and seaworthiness testing before being accepted.
RFP applications must be submitted by 5pm Bermuda time on November 13.
Proponents are expected to be ranked by December 11 and contracts will be negotiated between January 8 and February 5.
Further information is available on the procurement notices page of the Government’s website.
