Tyler Steede signs for Torquay United academy
Tyler Steede is determined to grasp an opportunity to further develop his skills at non-league side Torquay United with both hands.
The promising midfielder recently agreed to the terms of an undisclosed deal with the Gulls, who play in the National League South, the sixth tier of English football, and is grateful to have been granted the opportunity to work with the club’s academy coaching staff as he continues pursuit of his goals.
“It gives me a really good opportunity to improve my game in a professional environment, to work with top-level coaches and develop as a player,” he told The Royal Gazette.
“I chose Torquay because it’s a big club and I felt it was a really good opportunity for me. There’s a pathway here that can hopefully take me in the direction I want to go with my football.
“In the short term I’m hoping we can have a good run in the FA Youth Cup and I want to keep playing, training and improving my game.
“Long term I’m hoping to earn an opportunity with the first team and keep progressing towards playing football at the highest level I can.”
The 17-year-old has already produced some sterling performances for Torquay’s under-18s and was named man of the match in a 2-1 loss to away to Wimborne Town last time out.
“I’ve settled in really well. The team has been very friendly and welcoming. I’ve been training and playing consistently, and I’m enjoying myself and getting more comfortable,” he said.
Steede’s football journey began at Wolves before venturing off to Bermuda Athletic Association and FC Bascome to continue his development.
At age 11, he was scouted by Tottenham but was denied the opportunity to have trials with the Premier Division side due to the Covid pandemic.
After being granted clearance to travel again, Steede attended the Moorland Football Academy, Lucton International Football Academy and Chelsea Sparsholt College before ending up at Torquay, who are based in Devon, England.
He has also showcased his budding talent representing Bermuda internationally at the under-15 and under-17 levels.
