Come see the mimes and join the fun!

more freebies than one could imagine, will all be on offer at the Phoenix Centre this week. With special activities planned for every age group, the public is invited to join the Bermuda General Agency (BGA) as it celebrates the store's fresh, new look. A different theme will be focused on during each day of the week-long celebrations, the highlight of which will be a professional mime group based out of New York. According to a BGA spokesperson: "The number one reason why we are doing all the celebrations, is to let people know that the cards have moved upstairs and that the ground floor has expanded. "We really excited about the mimes. There's never been anything like this in Bermuda. They are professional mimes and play all over the United States. They're going to be in the Hallmark department all week and everyday, we will place a donation box for a different charity in the area and when people make a donation, the mimes will do something.'' Every day will have a special theme, the spokesperson explained.

Monday's theme is Time For a Change during which something do to with time will be given away every hour.

Tuesday's theme is Beauty Day during which there will be free Revlon makeovers. Member of the public may either phone in and make an appointment or walk in and do so.

Wednesday's theme is Senior Citizens Day and Avid Readers Night during which seniors will be offered free giveaways, seating within the store, coffee, tea and juice. In the evening, members of the Avid Readers' Club have been invited to the Bookmart for refreshments and a chance to meet local authors who will be doing book signings. There will also be giveaways of bookmarks and book lights.

Thursday's theme is Sun Care Day during which samples of perfume and beauty products will be offered.

Friday's theme is Hallmark Celebration Day during which $1 gift certificates will be given to customers for every $10 purchase. Redeemable until August 31, they are worth $1 off any future purchase.

Saturday's theme is Grand Opening Day along with various other planned activities, Premier Pamela Gordon will cut a ribbon at 10 a.m.

Also organised for this week is a Batman Colouring Contest sponsored by Kellogg's with the winner receiving a free trip to Six Flags in New Jersey and a chance to try out the Batman roller coaster ride.

A huge greeting card measuring eight feet by eight feet will today sit in the Hallmark Department, and members of the public will be invited to sign it.

Free 20 cent stamps will also be given away with the purchase of every greeting card.

Throughout the week, special gifts will be given to persons celebrating their birthday on that day, free balloons will be given to children and, on Senior Citizens' Day, free carnations will be given to members of that group.

Each day, the Bookmart will highlight those books associated with the daily themes at the Phoenix Centre. And during lunch hours and on Saturday, hands-on Internet demonstrations will be offered from three or four stations set up in the area.

Throughout the week, costumed characters such as Tony the Tiger, the Litter Critter, the BELCO Bird, the Keebler Elf and the Energizer Bunny, will be wandering the store and there will be many free give-aways and `buy one get one free' items. And a daily drawing will see airline tickets to a gateway US city given to a lucky customer.

Flying airplanes will surround people as they travel down the escalator to the Annex, and a painted hand mural with the names and ages of children inside, will be created on Saturday and later put on display. An electric train will travel around the department giving rides to children.

"On the main floor, all the suppliers have been really wonderful,'' said the spokesperson. "So we will be doing a lot of sampling, and offering a lot of special products at special prices.'' Come in and win! enabling people to ask questions and a `Guess The Baby Contest' with pictures of celebrities around the Island will give the person who correctly names them all, free diapers for one year. Persons will also be invited to guess the number of jellybeans in a jar with the closest guesser receiving the entire jar and its contents, and a special draw will see one lucky winner receive a $1,000 gift certificate to the Phoenix Centre.
