Corona League relaunches as Carlsberg League
The Bermuda Commercial League, formerly known as the Corona League, has announced its relaunch under new title sponsor Carlsberg, in partnership with Burrows Lightbourn.
In addition to the new sponsorship, the league has shifted its base from Goose Gosling Field to Devonshire Recreation Club, which will host the season’s curtain-raiser, the Charity Shield between Inter Bermuda and Young Gunz Sound on Friday at 7pm.
League president David Furtado indicated that the move to Devonshire Rec came after the organisation received an offer it could not turn down, with the venue offering improved facilities for players and spectators.
“An opportunity came along that was simply too good to pass up,” Furtado said.
“As president, I want to bring a fresh spark to what I believe is already a great league filled with talented and competitive footballers.
“It’s about bringing new energy, building on what we already have and moving the league forward.”
Seven teams will contest the league this season, Inter BDA, Robin Hood, Young Gunz, Island Bulls, Rhino Athletic Club, Terrace Onions and Tuff Dogs.
While operating outside the Bermuda Football Association’s senior divisions, the competition has earned a reputation for its competitiveness since it was established in 2009.
Over the years, some of its clubs have punched above their weight in the FA Cup, most notably Tuff Dogs, who enjoyed a memorable run to the quarter-finals in 2024 before their journey was ended by Hamilton Parish.
