The Department of Workforce Development is welcoming those interested in developing their skills operating heavy trucks to sign up for a training programme.

The Heavy Truck Driver Training Programme will run from November 9 to December 18 and is open to residents over the age of 18 with a valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record.

A spokeswoman said the programme “welcomes individuals seeking to broaden their skill set, explore future opportunities or enhance their employment prospects in transportation, construction, logistics and related industries”.

“Applicants do not need to be employed in these industries or intend to pursue heavy truck driving as a career.”

Applications will be assessed based on eligibility, driving history and commitment to attendance as well as successful completion of the programme.

Attendees are expected to appear for all scheduled training sessions, including practical driving sections, comply with road safety and workplace health and safety requirements and complete all required assessments.

She added: “Admission into or completion of the programme does not guarantee a heavy truck driver’s licence. Participants must meet all applicable Transport Control Department licensing requirements.”

Those interested in applying can do so online, with more information available at dwd.bm.
