Moongate Tour title up for grabs at Mid Ocean
Kenny Leseur will continue his bid to become the first back-to-back Moongate Tour champion at Mid Ocean Club today.
The defending Order of Merit champion is locked in an exciting race for the title with fellow professional Adam Perry heading into the final medal event of the season.
It is anyone’s guess who will walk away with honours with just 50 points separating leader Perry from Leseur.
The pair will tee off in the final group, which also includes Ocean View teaching professional Nick Jones, who made his third appearance in the Butterfield Bermuda Championship at Port Royal last week.
Leseur has reeled in his expectations after only recently returning from a hip injury.
“I have only played twice since the Local Qualifier. I’ve been getting my hip better and took a bit of a break,” he told The Royal Gazette.
“I have no expectations but it looks like it’s going to be fun playing with Adam and Nick, who are both great players in their own right.”
Perry is pumped up for the occasion, but like Leseur has also seen very little action on the course lately.
“I’m definitely excited. I don’t think the weather is looking super sharp, but nevertheless we’re going to go out there and battle it out,” he said.
“I can’t say that I’ve been playing a lot. I hit the driving range yesterday for the first time in a while just so I could knock off some of the dust, but I’m looking forward to it. No expectations as always; just go out there and try and have fun.
“It’s nice to be playing with a high level of golf surrounding me, so that will push me to play even better.”
Jones is feeling good about his game and is riding a wave of confidence after producing his best round of one under in a PGA Tour event in the second round of the recent Butterfield Bermuda Championship.
“I am looking forward to the Moongate Tour event at Mid Ocean. My game feels good and I got to keep the momentum going.” he said.
“I got a chance to play Mid Ocean yesterday; the greens are great and hopefully the weather stays up. It’s always a pleasure playing with both of my mates and we’ll have a good battle.”
Jones, who failed to make the cut along with Port Royal professional Camiko Smith in this year’s Butterfield Bermuda Championship, sits in third in the Moongate Tour Order of Merit.
Perry already has two wins under his belt to date, while Quinton Sherlock Jr, Dwayne Pearman, Leseur and Jones have one each.
Also among a stellar field at Mid Ocean are the likes of Daniel Augustus and fellow professionals Pearman and Smith, as well as top amateur Jarryd Dillas.
