Canadian denies plot to smuggle cannabis
A Canadian woman has denied allegations that she smuggled more than $1 million of cannabis into Bermuda.
Yemariam Teshome, 21, pleaded not guilty in the Supreme Court to charges that between an unknown date and June 21, 2026, she conspired with others not before the court to import cannabis into Bermuda.
The Ontario resident also denied a charge that she possessed a quantity of the drug with intent to supply on that same date.
Puisne Judge Alan Richards said the quantity of drugs seized in the case could be valued at more than $1 million depending on how it was sold.
Mr Justice Richards adjourned the matter until December 11 to be mentioned, setting a fixed trial date for February 15.
