Access to a long-term care ward at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital has been restricted after cases of Covid-19 were identified.

A spokeswoman for the Bermuda Hospitals Board said that three cases of the virus had been confirmed, along with several additional cases of patients with respiratory symptoms.

“Individuals with symptoms have been isolated,” the spokeswoman added. “This is a timely reminder that Covid-19 is still circulating in our community.

“Cases are also increasing in travel destinations like the UK and many areas of the US. Our patients are particularly vulnerable to respiratory viruses like Covid-19 and flu.

“If you are ill or have respiratory symptoms, don’t visit loved ones in hospital. If you have an outpatient appointment and are ill, please call before coming to the hospital.

“Protect our community by staying home when you aren’t well.”

A total of 8,518 Covid-19 cases were recorded in the UK in October. However, weekly figures show cases were decreasing by the end of the month.

The US Centres for Disease Control, meanwhile, reported that as of October 28 Covid-19 cases were estimated to be increasing in 22 states.
