Tennis players Trey Mallory and Tariq Simons were in action in the Bermuda World Tennis Open Singles 2 on Tuesday.

Mallory put on a gallant display against American Kian Vakili after a rain delay. The Bermudian took the first set 6-3 before Vakili fought back to win the second 6-4 and sealed the encounter with a 7-5 victory in the third.

Simons, a wild card entry, took on American qualifier Mitchell Dobek with the match set to play to a conclusion on Wednesday. The Bermudian wrestled the first set 7-6 with the second at 6-6 and set for a tiebreak before the players were forced off court by the weather.

Top seed Blaise Bicknell lived up to expectations by winning the Bermuda World Tennis Open 1 singles on Sunday.

Bicknell, who came into the tournament ranked 421st in the world, bested fourth seed Alvin Tudorica, of Canada 6-1, 6-1 in the final at WER Joell Stadium. Tudorica had defeated Bermudian Tariq Simons in the first round.

“I’m just happy to get the win,” Bicknell said.

“It was an amazing week, we had a great tournament and the organisers were also amazing.

“I’m from the islands so it’s nice coming here to the Caribbean weather. Credit to everybody for putting on this tournament for the first time in Bermuda.”

In doubles, it was an all-American affair, with top seeds Keshav Chopra and Matt Kuhar overcoming fourth seeds Nathan Cox and Jeffrey Fradkin 6-4, 6-2.
