Driver admits using handheld device

A woman who used a handheld device while driving may be able to complete community service instead of paying a fine.

Mandaya Thomas, 36, admitted the infraction when she appeared in Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

Thomas, from Pembroke, committed the offence near the junction of North Shore Road and Berkeley Hill on April 22, 2025.

Magistrate Auralee Cassidy ordered that a report be written to assess Thomas’s ability to complete community service for the offence, which would typically attract a $300 fine, and released her on bail until December 9.
