A Neos Air flight headed to Italy from Mexico diverted to the island yesterday morning after a medical emergency.

Flight 473, a Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, departed Cancun at about 11.26pm Atlantic Standard Time Thursday, for Rome.

While en route, the flight diverted to LF Wade International after a passenger fell ill. The aircraft landed at about 3am local time, according to Flightaware.com.

A Skyport spokeswoman said the passenger, a 60-year-old male, was attended to by emergency medical personnel following the aircraft’s arrival.

The aircraft was expected to continue its journey to Milan but was unable to depart due to a mechanical issue, she added.

The 351 passengers and 12 crew members subsequently deplaned, and passengers were provided with food and refreshments.

Airport restaurants and retail outlets also remained open to provide additional services and amenities during their stay.

The spokeswoman said accommodation and onward transportation arrangements are being co-ordinated by the airline and relevant partners.

The flight is expected to depart Bermuda at approximately 10am today.
