Government should start with its own derelict properties

Left standing: Montpelier, formerly designated as the deputy governor’s residence, has been empty since 2018 (File photograph)

Dear Sir,

Listening to the Deputy Premier on the news this evening talking about properties which are deteriorating due to being held up by problems with probate, I wondered how many Government-owned properties are not being maintained?

The deputy Governor’s house “Montpelier” has been allowed to deteriorate, the Parsonage on Ireland Island South and what is happening to HMS Malabar which was renovated for over $1 million? Is it giving any return on investment apart from the $800,000.00 given for a sound studio, but the recipient has disappeared?

The Director of Agriculture’s house in the Botanical Gardens was allowed to deteriorate when it could have been converted into apartments for King Edward VII Memorial Hospital staff. Now taken over by Masterworks foundation.

When is Government going to start with their own properties?
