But Maxi Mart's new owner Mr. Frank Arnold was denied a licence until he could satisfy the licensing authority that the liquor section would be kept separate from the rest of the store.

The Commissioner of Police granted a licence to the cruise boat Passions on the agreement that Mr. John Hayward would only act as crew.

"The boat can not sail unless Mr. George Outerbridge or Mr. Keith Ward is in charge until Miss (Marina) Esplin-Jones gets her Captain's Licence,'' said the chairman of the Liquor Licence Authority, the Wor. Will Francis.

Maxi Mart was bought recently by Mr Arnold who explained: "The old owners are still working there so I thought that the licence was still in their name.'' But the board said that a new licence was needed before the store could sell liquor again.

The board asked Mr. Arnold if he had extended his hours since taking over the store. Mr. Arnold said he had, but added that he had not extended the hours in which he sold alcohol.

The board then questioned him on how he was preventing the sale of alcohol during the extended hours. He explained that he had the liquor section partitioned off but the board said they could not grant him the new licence until they had examined exactly how he was separating the liquor section from the rest of the store.

The Maxi Mart hearing was adjourned until Tuesday.
