Butterfield Bank shares continued to slide, and were down $2, or 6.2 per cent, to $30.50 after 900 traded on The Royal Gazette/BSX Index. On the New York Stock Exchange, the bank’s shares were down 95 cents, or 3.03 per cent, at $30.40.

On the local exchange a total of 11,602 shares of Ascendant Group, the parent of Belco, were exchanged with no change to the closing price of $17.

The Royal Gazette/BSX Index was down 89.95 points, or 4.43 per cent, at 1,941.99. The BSX Insurance Index was down 30.98 points, or 2.1 per cent, at 1,445.31.

The Bermuda Stock Exchange will close at 2pm on Monday ahead of the holiday break.
