Holder double sinks Blazers
PHC 2 Boulevard 1
Two goals in two minutes by new boy Lloyd Holder gave PHC a 2-1 victory over Boulevard in the second match of the Martonmere Cup double-header at BAA Field on Saturday night.
Coming on as a substitute in the 63rd minute with his side 1-0 down, after Tekhyi Walker had tapped in following a free kick which PHC keeper Jay Smith couldn't control, Holder quickly became a hero as he notched the vital goals that propelled his side into the next round of the cup competition.
The champions, however, were made to sweat with Blazers playing some attractive football.
Knowing that only a win could keep them in the tournament, Boulevard struck first in the 34th minute with Walker pouncing on a rebound.
But a crucial decision by Blazers coach Andrew Bascome to bring on back-up goalie Andrew Jjombwe for Randy Broadbelt proved costly as his side went from one up to two down in the blink of an eye.
The first goal was the result of a blunder by Jjombwe who mishandled a straightforward free kick allowing Holder to tap in from point blank range in the 73rd minute.
Then two minutes later Holder headed PHC in front as he outjumped the Boulevard defence to put away the winner in emphatic style.

Devonshire Colts 2 North Village 5
Ralph Bean jr's hat-trick guided North Village to a 5-2 rout of Devonshire Colts as they booked their place in the semi-finals of the Martonmere Cup in the opening game.
The Rams skipper led from the front, bagging his goals at critical stages of the match with his last, a gem of a strike. Jemeiko Jennings and Pierre Smith added single tallies for Village while Ryan Nesbitt and Bayon Robinson scored for Colts in a losing cause.
Jennings got the ball rolling in the 15th minute for a Village side who seemed to have shaken off their 7-1 Charity Cup debacle with a powerful drive that left Colts keeper Sean Perinchief no chance.
Darren Williams then stepped to fore front as he gifted Village, and Bean, two penalties.
The first spot kick was the result of a rash challenge by Williams on Tarik Jennings, with Bean slotting home the spot-kick to make it 2-0.
The defender was then deemed to have handled the ball inside the area with his side back in the match courtesy of Nesbitt's goal to make it 2-1.
The ever reliable Bean stepped up to make it 3-1.
Robinson then made the match a contest again after notching his first goal of the season to bring Colts back to 3-2 down.
Bean then cleverly chipped Perinchief from 25 yards to dent Colts' spirits, after Aljame Zuill had smashed a penalty against the post.
With the match all but settled, Smith put his name on the scoresheet in the 79th minute after hard work down the flank enabled him to slot his chance home from close range.
