TABLE TENNIS PP Peter Philpott's late arrival ultimately proved to be Cleveland's undoing as they were beaten 6-5 by Southampton Princess in a Bank of Butterfield League make-up match on Friday night.

Philpott defaulted to Sam Murray, the weakest player on either side, in the third match, providing Princess with a 3-0 lead.

Philpott never recovered as he lost to both Reginald Benjamin and Cyril Rubaine but Trent Smith started the fightback with a good win over Benjamin and he and Llewellyn Smith both comfortably beat Murray.

But Rubaine wrapped up the match in singles by beating Llewellyn Smith in straight games. Cleveland won both doubles.

Tonight, Princess are in action again as they face BPSA in a match brought forward from next Tuesday.

The outstanding Challenge Cup semifinal will also be played. Eastern Stars and BAA meet at Elliott Primary School after last Thursday's match at St. George's Cricket Club was halted by a power outage.

The winner meets Hamilton Parish I in the final at a date to be announced.
