Harness racing continues at the Equestrian Centre at Vesey Street tomorrow with competition starting at 2 p.m.

The day's activity will feature a series of 16 races and it will be the second last race day of the season.

Three ponies are in the running for High Point Pacer. They are Nateway, Eddie The Great and J.B.'s T.W. Bell. Each pony is within four points of the other and it appears to be anyone's race going down the stretch.

Eddie the Great has number one position on the rail in the free-for-all, which gives him an advantage over Nateway who is in the third hole.

In T.W. Bell's race, Penny's Rocky Road has the rail postion and second, third and fourth holes will be drawn on the track because T.W. Bell, V Six and Tina's Princess all have identical classifying times.

Four new ponies will be arriving in Bermuda next month from Florida's Sunshine Race Way and Pennsylvania to start racing for the next season, which gets under way in September.

Two new ponies, both Bermuda bred, will be making their debuts as two-year-olds also. They are Dark and Stormy and Pontiac's Pride.

It is expected that as many as 40 ponies will be racing regularly by the start of next season.

SOFTBALL SOF BSL are the new champions of the Commercial Softball League D Division after beating off a challenge by BF&M and Centre Re in a play-off at Bernard Park on Wednesday night.

The three teams had finished tied after regular league play and entered the play-off where BSL hammered BF&M 18-1 in the first game and followed this up with a 13-10 triumph over Centre Re.

In the first game Andy Ives led BSL by going four-for-four, including a triple and two doubles that brought home two runs while team-mate Neil Movold went three-for-four and drove home three runs. Winner pitcher Richard Miller scattered three hits.

The second game was a thriller with BSL finding themselves trailing 6-1 after the first inning after Scott Roberts had highlighted an early attack by Centre Re with a two-run double.

But BSL fought back and overhauled their opponents in the bottom of the third to take a 8-7 lead and then scored five more runs in the fifth with Dane Brown slamming a two-run homer and winning pitcher Miller making some good defensive plays.

Meanwhile play in the A Division saw Snowballs score a 11-5 victory over ACT to secure the fourth and final spot in the play-offs. Sylvain Fontain was the top hitter for Snowballs going three-for-four with two homers and three runs batted in while winning pitcher Mario Valcourt went two-for-three with a homer and a triple and three runs batted in.

Richard Davidge went two-for-three for the losers, including a homer and triple that provided his team three runs.

EQUESTRIANISM RAH The second and third rounds of this year's FEI/Samsung Show Jumping competition will be held today and Sunday at the National Equestrian Centre at Vesey Street.

Defending champion John Deuss missed the first round that was held two weeks ago, but may be back for this one.

However, he cannot now qualify for the overall worldwide competition but as each round is a separate event his presence could add some spice. Veteran rider Joan Taplin will also be back for these rounds.

Leading the competition after the first day is Heather Speck with Heather Littlejohn second. Both riders had double clear rounds with the leader's time being slightly faster.

The next four places are held by junior riders Melissa Pereech, Samantha DeCouto, Julie Pitman and Sara Smith, but that could all change tomorrow.

The Samsung competition will start at 1 p.m. today with a warm-up competition proceeding it in the morning in conjunction with the Bermuda Horse and Pony Association Spring Show.

Sunday morning will feature the third round, which will start at 11 a.m. prior to the Harness Racing, which is schedule to get under way at 2 p.m.
