Phillips zeroes in on hat-trick in Jamaica

Daniel Phillips

Daniel Phillips is two wins from more glory on his four-stop crusade through the Caribbean.

After two titles already in the Confederation of Tennis in Central America and the Caribbean Under-14 Circuit — in Aruba and the Bahamas — he is at the Liguanea Club in Kingston, Jamaica, seeking to bring up a hat-trick.

The No 2 seed has yet to drop a game after three 4-0, 4-0 wins in the qualifying round robin, including a default in his second scheduled match on Sunday.

With six players of the 11-strong field advancing to the main draw, he receives a bye to the last four and is expected to be next in action today.

The top seed is Keyon’dre Clarke, of Jamaica.

Phillips, who has been on the road since mid-June in the company of coach Sammy Maybury, concludes his island-hopping schedule in the Dominican Republic, starting on Saturday.
