Bermuda’s Freemasons have donated a total of $7,500 to three charities.

The Family Centre, the Scout Association of Bermuda and the Bermuda Diabetes Association were each presented with $2,500 cheques last week.

A spokesman for the Freemasons said: “Freemasonry means different things to each of those who join.

“For some, it’s about making new friends and acquaintances. For others it’s about being able to help deserving causes — making a contribution to family and society.”

He said the donations came from the Freemasons’ Fund for Bermuda, which received contributions from all of the island’s 12 lodges.

The spokesman added: “We consider all registered charities worthy of donations but their needs at the time of consideration tend to play part in our considerations.

“Since the inception of the FFFB in 1981 we have donated over $316,000 to charity in Bermuda.”
