Gorham’s is one retailer that’s not afraid of online shopping - and has come up with a creative way of keeping shoppers “here”.The home supplies store is now offering in-store online ordering for everything - including the kitchen sink.Several computers have been set up in the store already as Gorham’s tests the new service ahead of an official launch.General manager of Gorham’s Andrew Mackay said the service was in its “infancy stage” but up and running.Customers can order anything they want online and Gorham’s will special order it and bring in for them. They will consolidate the orders in their regular containers, which will be a savings for the customer.“If you want to order and bring in a fridge, or laptop, you can, and Gorham’s will take care of all the shipping and handling,” he said.Customers can order from a number of major websites, including Amazon.com.“We look at online shopping as the reality of having a global environment. Retail is global and you have two choices, embrace it or be fearful of it. We are not saying shop overseas - we would love if everybody shopped locally but in the same breath we’ve got to be realistic.”Mr Mackay said the new service will also help to educate the public about retail pricing in Bermuda and show that much of the retail products available in Bermuda are, in fact, competitively priced.Customers were given the opportunity to try out the new service at Gorham’s destination shopping day on Saturday gone, which featured travel prizes and product giveaways.
